Principal’s Message

Dear Parents

As we come to the end of the school year, it is always amazing to take a little time and reflect on how far the children have come (both academically and socially) in addition to how much they have physically grown since we commenced school last August. With only a few weeks remaining in the school year, we would like to remind parents to sign-up for your last opportunity to be a parent volunteer this academic year. Please sign-up HERE.

Of course, with our graduation/leaving ceremony just around the corner, the K2 children have been working hard to learn new songs and prepare for this important event that will be held next week. Please see the schedule below for details, and free feel to contact your child’s teacher should you require any clarification.

For all the K2 families moving onto Y1 and any K1 families leaving Hillside at the end of this academic year, please do take the time to revisit and download your child’s ePortfolio. Please spend some time together with your child to look through all the work they have done over the year and let them tell you all about it. There is a download button (document icon) on the right-hand side that allows you to download the entire ePortfolio as a PDF. You can access your child’s ePortfolio HERE.

Thank you to those of you who have attended the Bringing Active Learning Home and the Wellbeing for Early Years (Friendship, Resilience and transitions) parent session last week.

At Hillside we value the development of a positive partnership between home and school, and we know that this is an overall important factor in ensuring the children’s success. For those that were unable to attend the workshops, please click HERE to access the presentations for your information.

Year 1 ESF Primary Admissions (for the 2019/20 Academic Year) – SAVE THE DATE!!

We will facilitate an information session for kindergarten parents to explain the ESF Year 1 Application and Admissions Process. This will take place at ESF Centre (25/F Fortis Centre, 1063 King’s Road, Quarry Bay) on Wednesday 29 August 2018, from 6-7.30pm.

The ESF application lodging period takes place between the 1st and 30th September each year. For further information on the current process, you can visit the ESF website. http://www.esf.edu.hk/admissions-policy

Sun Protection and Outdoor Play – ‘No Hat – No Play’

With the start of the very hot weather season in Hong Kong its important to re-visit our ‘No Hat – No Play’ Sun Protection policy that we have at Hillside.

Children must have a kindergarten uniform sun hat to wear when they play outside or are engaged in kindergarten excursions/outdoor events.

Hats are essential every day, and therefore should be accessible in your child’s school bag. Mosquito repellent at this time of year is also highly recommended due to the location of our kindergarten.

Please note that we follow the advice/guidelines provided by the EDB/HK Observatory in regards to hot weather warnings. If it is too hot for outdoor play, our teachers will be advised, and indoor play will be rearranged to accommodate the closure of the outdoor play stations.

Payment of Advance Fees for Returning Children

For current K1 children returning in K2, you should have received an email outlining the details of payment for advance fees. The advance fees will be debited from your designated bank account on 1 August 2018 and will be used to offset September 2018 school fees. Please see the following link for details http://www.esf.edu.hk/2018/05/11/advance-fees-2018-19-hillside/
Have a wonderful weekend!

Kind Regards
