Head of School’s Message

Dear Parent

Firstly, to our families who celebrated Diwali Festival of Lights this past weekend, we hope it was filled with peace and happiness. A special thanks to Ria and her family from the Panda class for preparing the special Diwali presentation for the children!

Last week has been yet another interesting week in HK amidst this pandemic, and as you know, we have now reactivated distance learning commencing today. These certainly are challenging times we live in. However, our team was ready to switch to distance learning at short notice to ensure the wellbeing and continuity of learning for our children. We remain optimistic that we will see the children back in school after two weeks, and therefore, will continue to push through with our planned events for the next few weeks.

Parent-Teacher Consultations (PTC)

PTCs will continue as planned via Zoom. If you haven’t made an appointment, please do so as soon as possible.

Home-School Partnerships: New Learning Blogs and Parent Webinar

Our PYP Coordinator, Brenda Yuen, has started the K1 and K2 learning blogs again. We hope to share the rationale behind our teaching and learning practices and provide you with some information on your child’s recent Unit of Inquiry and Chinese learning.

You can access these posts on the class site via the ESF App under the “Home Learning” tile or via the Quick Links below.

To this end, we are also planning a Parent Webinar by Leith Stewart from Young Folk Therapy, a highly experienced occupational therapist, who has worked with children in ESF and HK for many years.

With distance learning and also the upcoming Christmas holidays, we thought it might be helpful to host this webinar on “Screen time: Tips and Strategies”. More details will follow soon if you’re interested, please save this date in your diaries, Thursday 3 December, 1-2pm.

Christmas Appeal – Mother’s Choice

It has been a Hillside tradition to foster the spirit of giving every Christmas. Not only does this tradition create a connection with our learning community, but it also makes the “caring” profile of each learner (young and old) come alive. This year, our charity of choice is Mother’s Choice. We would like to give back to our local community and for our children to do this act of kindness towards other children.

Mother’s Choice is a local charity serving many children without families and pregnant teenagers in Hong Kong. We join hands with our community to give hope and change the life stories of vulnerable girls and babies. Our vision is to see every child in a loving family.

We hope to support Mother’s Choice with you by having your child/children bring in preloved books to donate to the underprivileged. Building on our sustainability principles, please donate pre-loved books rather than purchasing new ones. The books will be used at Mother’s Choice’s child care home book corner. Our Christmas appeal will run until Thursday 10 December.  We encourage the children to personally place the books in our collection boxes under our Christmas tree at reception.

As always, we thank our wonderful Hillside community for your ongoing support!!
