Head of School’s Message

Dear Parent

We are gutted with the news that classes are suspended for another week. However, I am so very proud of the children and families for making the transition to online learning so smoothly. I’ve heard many stories of how the children are a lot more engaged in this round of distance learning, and we are so pleased to see everyone’s entire face!

I’ve shared my perspective with many parents, so it’s no secret how disappointed we are about the situation, but unfortunately, it is out of our control. However, we can make the best out of the situation and we can control what we do here at Hillside.

Distance Learning

Thank you for all your feedback on the ESF App, we will address them with the ESF IT department. In the meantime, we will proceed like we did the last term with the teachers emailing you the distance learning content/ class site link on Friday afternoon ahead of the following week. You can also access the link via the Quick Links below. Again, we would suggest families to bookmark this site on their browsers/ devices for easy access.

Resource Packs

Your child should have come home with a resource pack on that last Friday, or if you were absent, it would have been posted out to you. We are now in the process of preparing a Christmas pack, so please watch this space.

We are also preparing to set up a paint collection station in our foyer area for families to stop by to collect paint or other resources. We will send a message out as soon as we have the logistics ready.

Christmas Appeal

We are still committed and hope to support Mother’s Choice with you by having your child/children bring in preloved books to donate to the underprivileged. Building on our sustainability principles, please donate pre-loved books rather than purchasing new ones. The books will be used at Mother’s Choice’s child care home book corner. Our Christmas appeal will run until Thursday 10 December, if you do pass by Hillside, we encourage the children to personally place the books in our collection boxes under our Christmas tree at reception.

Parent Webinar

We are hosting a Parent Luncheonar with Leith Stewart from Young Folk Therapy, a highly experienced occupational therapist, who has worked with children in ESF and HK for many years.

With distance learning and also the upcoming Christmas holidays, we thought it might be helpful to host a webinar on managing screentime.

This webinar will discuss 3 important issues:
1. How to implement rules around screen time for the entire family.
2. How screen time is impacting your child’s development
3. Why monitoring the content your child is accessing is more important than keeping tabs on  their ‘screen time’

This webinar will provide practical tips for all parents, teachers and caregivers to enable them to make informed choices around screens. Leith welcomes all questions so include them in your registration. Questions will be answered confidentially during the webinar.

As always, we thank our wonderful Hillside community for your ongoing support!

Stay well and stay healthy!
