Principal’s Message

Dear Parents

Last Friday we held our first ‘Book Character Parade’ and this event was a huge success. Thank you to you all for helping your child to have a wonderful costume to wear at this event – we certainly have some very creative people in our Hillside Community.

All Hillside staff also fully took part in this event and to tell you the truth, I think it may have been the Hillside staff (not the children) that enjoyed the opportunity to strut their stuff down the ‘cat-walk’ that we had created down the middle of the playground!! The enthusiastic response we have had to this event makes me think that this costume parade will now become an annual event on the Hillside calendar. I do hope you all had a chance to check out the photos of the parade on your child’s Class Blogs and thank you again for your support.

The following two items are important final reminders:

ESF Biennial Stakeholder Survey

ESF Hillside stakeholders have been invited via email to participate in the biennial ESF Stakeholder Survey, which will be open from the 5th to 19th March 2018. Through this survey we aim to find out about the impressions that parents and staff have formed about the overall education that we provide. The feedback from the survey will help us build on our strengths and inform our future planning.

A parent invite was emailed to the primary contact parent in your family on the 5th March 2018 and ESF will also send out a reminder email regarding the completion of this survey

We would be grateful if you would spare the time to complete the survey. It’s shorter than in past years and takes about 10-15 minutes to complete (though may take a little longer if you wish to add comments in the optional comment boxes). Thank you to the many parents that have already taken the time to participate in the ESF stakeholder survey.

Absences and Health Reminder

Please be reminded to inform the kindergarten if your child is absent due to illness or any other reasons.

As part of the new Education Bureau (EDB) directive, “starting from March 15, 2018, kindergartens must report to the EDB students’ absence for seven consecutive school days if such absence is without reasons or under doubtful circumstances.” Therefore, it is very important to inform us in advance if your child will be away for a period of time.

The EDB and Centre for Health Protection (CHP) urge us to continue to stay vigilant against seasonal influenza and other transmittable diseases. Many childhood illnesses such as influenza, chicken pox, Hand-Foot-Mouth-Disease, Scarlett fever, conjunctivitis are highly contagious and have recommended exclusion periods from school to protect all students. Please note exclusion periods as below as per the CHP guidelines.

K1 Leavers – Withdrawal Notice

If your child is currently in K1 and you have decided that your child will not be continuing at Hillside for K2, it would be appreciated if you could let us know as soon as possible to assist us with our planning. Please submit a completed Withdrawal Notice Form (available HERE) to the kindergarten at least two months prior to your child’s last day of school. The debenture will not be redeemed without the two-month advance notice of withdrawal. It is the parents’ responsibility to confirm with individual kindergartens the receipt of the Withdrawal Notice Form.

If you do have any questions please do not hesitate to contact our Admissions Manager, Jasmine Lau, by phone or by email admissions@hillside.edu.hk for assistance.

For K2 students who are graduating by the end of June, there is no need to submit the withdrawal notice and the debenture certificate.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Kind Regards
Chris
